Mr Smith, Herts

At Verbal Behaviour Consultants, we don’t just work with families and children facing the challenges of autism, learning difficulties and other behaviour disorders. We also believe that school is one of the most important learning environments for children of all abilities, so we work closely with educational experts to ensure that children who do suffer from behaviour difficulties are nurtured in the most suitable environment.
School is an integral part of the development of a child’s social and communication skills, as well as providing them with a constant and stable environment in which to grow and learn. By facing the challenges presented by conditions such as autism, acquired and developmental disorders together, we provide a link to specialist care and knowledge that schools may otherwise find difficult to source. Our experienced and fully qualified behaviour analysts and psychologists work closely with teachers, providing them with programmes of development that work in the real world.
By linking up with schools, we also help teachers to communicate more effectively with children suffering from learning disabilities and disorders, and to encourage the child’s peers to interact with them in a constructive way. This is vitally important to a child who has difficulty communicating effectively. Poor social and communication skills can lead to a feeling of isolation and can very often be a trigger for acquired disorders such as eating and sleeping disorders, depression and the development of challenging and disruptive behaviour patterns. By creating a school environment where this sense of isolation is removed, those disruptive behaviour patterns can be channelled into more constructive behaviour and better communications skills.
Because of our experience working with educational institutions, we can develop specialist training programmes for teaching assistants, special needs assistants and learning support assistants. We also have specialist training programmes for sencos and head teachers to equip them with the most recent research advances in the field.
